Growing up in Benjamin and living here all my life, Benjamin is all I know. My school, in my heart, is not just a school but another place that I call home. Some call us too small of a school, but what I call us is fun sized. Not many schools can send their senior class to Hawaii for a week or even send their grade school students to Abilene with one teacher. Not many people know how great this school is, but they also do not know how much we struggle. With not many students enrolled in school, money from our lovely government is scarce. Our school may not have all the nice gadgets and new uniforms for basketball, but who needs all that? Our school has functioned and survived for many tough years, and in my opinion it will still strive for excellence in the future.

Brannde Estrada, the mother of one of our elementary students, Grace Estrada, talked to an acquaintance in Wichita Falls and did not realize what a great deal she had discovered for the school. This acquaintance had no ties to Benjamin whatsoever and never knew of the Mighty Mustang. But as she started to tell him of how small we were and what a great bond we had formed over the years, it caught his attention. His passion and love for small-town ethics made him want to give back to the school. Through his generosity and time, Michael Lam donated a new outdoor school sign.

As a senior here at BHS, I can speak for the school, and we would like to send out many thanks to Michael and his wife Carolyn for their generous contribution.
