th-12th English

th-6th Grade: Each student has a reading quiz on every Friday. The second try goes down as the grade for the day. On Monday-Thursday, each student is to work out of their own individual folder of STAAR Reading related materials. Each item turned in and corrected counts as a completion grade. The more completion grades the student turns in, the less the quiz grade counts, and the higher the six weeks grade.

th Grade: 7th Grade students are STAAR tested on reading as well as writing. On each Monday, each student will have an essay prompt that they must complete, first writing a rough draft/outline, a corrected copy, and then a copy using a thesaurus to improve the vocabulary of the paper. After they are done with the essay assignments, each student will work out of their folders that contain STAAR reading and writing assignments. Both the writing and reading assignments from Monday-Thursday count as completion assignments once done and corrected. On Friday, each student will have a reading quiz and the second try will go down as their grade. The more assignments they complete on Monday-Thursday, the higher the student's grade will be.

th Grade: Each student has a reading quiz on every Friday. The second try goes down as the grade for the day. On Monday-Thursday, each student is to work out of their own individual folder of STAAR Reading related materials. Each item turned in and corrected counts as a completion grade. The more completion grades the student turns in, the less the quiz grade counts, and the higher the six weeks grade.

th-10th Grade: High Schoolers subject to the STAAR test must take an End-of-Course examination that tests writing, reading, and short answer skills. The more assignments they complete on Monday-Thursday, the higher the student's grade will be.

th-12th Grade: High Schoolers not subject to the STAAR test will be focused on college level writing and literature, especially research papers. To start the year, students will be working in groups of two and selecting an author out of a preselected list and writing a three page research paper in MLA format.
